Motivation for sports: 6 effective tips!

What role does your ring training play in your everyday life? Is it the necessary evil that you like to postpone or do you always go through the training, no matter how your day was? In this blog article we want to go into the background of these questions and the phenomenon of Motivation illuminate. We show you our point of view and give you 6 tips to increase your motivation in training in the long term.

Before you promise yourself too much, however, it should be noted that motivation does not suddenly fall from the sky or come to you in your everyday life. Motivation can be understood as an emotional state that charges you energetically and makes you do things and get things done. It is a beautiful feeling, but probably no person feels it every day and this also affects those who always seem motivated externally. Now you may be wondering why sometimes you can’t pick yourself up for the sport while others are always full on it?

You should enjoy your sport!

The first reason most likely relates to your individual personality and your preferences for other recreational activities. You should therefore always choose a sport that you enjoy and that you already look forward to the day before. It does you no good to force yourself into something if it ultimately has no lasting effect. But how do you find the perfect sport for you? By trying things out! Try different courses, get inspired by friends and dare to try new things! For example, we offer a training at the gymnasiums, in which you can participate at any time and no matter where – try it out!

Formulate concrete goals!

However, your drive by the fun factor in a sport will not be enough every day to motivate you. There will be days when it will be difficult for you to pick yourself up. Therefore, you should work with concrete goals, which you adapt individually to your training level. Specifically formulated goals will give you an extra push in moments when you’re about to give up. They are the reason why you continue to train and can say, for example: “Make my first pull-up on the gymnasts until xx.xx.xxxx” or “Hold the bend hanging 1 minute on the rings until xx.xx.xxxx”. Less appropriate, on the other hand, would not be precisely formulated goals such as “pull-ups” or “bending hangers”. Because it is important that you pay attention to the precision of your goals, so that they are also measurable and achievable. We would recommend the SMART method for this and give it as an orientation. The acronym SMART stands for: specific, measurable, accepted, realistic and terminated. In addition to this orientation, you can also write down your goals and recall them again and again. This allows you to increase your intrinsic motivation and try to become a better version of yourself every day.

Exchange yourself with others in a community!

Another factor influencing your motivation can be your Community have. Playing sports with a circle of friends and sharing goals or progress can be a great support for yourself. This factor should not be underestimated, because we are all social beings and like to be part of a community. You are also welcome to become part of our Die Ringe community on Instagram or Facebook and share your progress or goals with us. Work on your commitment and discipline!

Furthermore, you should be aware that you are not desperately looking for motivation, but rather should work on your commitment and discipline. These are also the reasons why other athletes always seem motivated. They do not simply have more motivation, but are more committed and pursue their goals with discipline and the necessary will. They too will have days when they can hardly find motivation for the training and would prefer to stay on the couch. But with their goals, commitment and discipline, they will also go through the training session on such days – and you can do that too!

Create a solid routine!

Furthermore, you should not underestimate the role of a routine in your training. We all have certain routines in our lives, be it tomorrow’s coffee, the everyday walk in the afternoon or brushing our teeth in the evening. These structures give us security and simplify our everyday life. Therefore, you should also create a routine in your training that helps you achieve your goals. At best, you should pick out specific days of the week and set a time to work out. This allows you to prepare yourself mentally and have nothing else to do at the time, which may distract you.

Have a positive mindset!

Finally, of course, you should always remember the feeling that you have after a training session. After all, have you ever wondered why you were training in the first place? Did you ever think you’d rather stay on the couch? No, certainly not! Because the feeling of a successful training session will always be good and satisfy you. You will be proud of yourself for pulling through the training and feeling strong. This mindset will push you in the upcoming training sessions and the more often you train, the easier it will be to pick you up.

We hope that we could introduce you to the phenomenon of motivation and that you can increase your own motivation with these tips and thus build a sustainable training. If you would like to know more about training at the gymnastics, take a look at our DIE RINGE App.
